From: Jason Tan Boon Teck Date: May 5, 2004 Subject: [SamadNet] Portal development Hi Ryan (and everyone else), Well, the ESA was formally set up a couple of years ago by Adel and gang (our seniors who are still actively involved). The ESA suffered from the lack of publicity and awareness, since the school cannot provide the addresses of the school leavers to us and it would have cost a bomb to flood the physical mailboxes of PJ homes. There wasn't a proper website due to the lack of volunteers and also probably the lack of contents to keep it popular. However, we are now in the midst of merging SamadNet (the informal network) with the ESA's official website into one. A member, who will remain low key at the moment has graciously contributed a web host equipped with a easy to use open source portal called mambo server. We will register a domain name once the site is past alpha (what do you call progress before alpha but after napkin scribbles?). I'm thinking of a tightly moderated mailing list - something that facilities like yahoo groups cannot do. Noise to signal ratios could be too high to everyone's liking. The main chatting should be in the site's forum. Go there if you want to berborak or have a cup of virtual teh tarik on me. It may probably evolve into a virtual association in the 21st century with physical activiites and get togethers happening throughout the year. Some of the ideas being brainstormed are: - association activities announcements - association activities post mortems - school achievements announcements - gang fights schedules (just kidding) - job offers to help new grads and new land surveyors (liong day qoon) - reminiscing - keeping track of successful ex-samadians, eg. Bernard Chandran, etc. (requires RM50,000 contributions to be inducted into this Hall of Fame) :-) - most relevant site from online searches for ex-students looking for the alumni - secure online payment of subscriptions and donations (still not paypal) - full disclosure of payments if feature is implemented - old school photo album (we'll try to tumpang other sites if it gets too big) - special offers/discounts to members from those doing businesses Back to your question, the current President is Ezan and the VP is Zul. Susan is the secretary while Sook Heng is the treasurer. Ezan is actively involved in SMI/SME development programmes for the govt. Oops, I do not have Ezan's current private e-mail address. Susan, please help me. Anyway Susan's e-mail is hui_susan_@hotmail.com. The intention to dissolve the association was mooted by some in the committee since we don't seem to be going anywhere at the moment. We need volunteers for the ESA as well as the SamadNet portal. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to discuss them. Please also forward this mail to your other siblings/relatives/ classmates/formmates/bas sekolahmates/Sri Jaya mates, etc. that have e-mail. L8R Jason Tan Boon Teck http://samadian.tripod.com ps. My jaring e-mail address seems to have a home in more than 1,000 address books, flooding my inbox every hour. Please include [SamadNet] into your subject title. >hi > >never knew there was "SMSASESA", because there were no >publicity, notice ... or etc. > >is it still in existance , or it is already >deregistered ?
