From: Jason Tan Boon Teck Date: May 13, 2004 Subject: [SamadNet] More updates Dear All, [SamadNet is an informal network of SMKSAS alumni. If you wish to opt out from the list, please send a note to me. If you just want to be informed of news about the SMKSASESA, drop me a note as well and I will move your e-mail address into the correct group. I'm moderating the chatter and only forward the pertinent ones.] New section - I'm compiling news articles on the school. Recognise someone? Going through the website, I found scans of the constitution - totally forgot that I've them. We've been getting positive responses from ex-Samadians on and off the list. Many would like to network and also contribute back to the school. But what is lacking is a cohesive platform. Thus, the portal is proceeding as planned. More ideas ---------------- - username should be in the form of xxxxxxxxx99 where x is name while 99 is the year left school. - we're a network of ex-students, so no anonymous members - chatter will be confined to the portal's forum once we decide on the suitable module to be installed - only announcements will be made by e-mail once the portal is up and running smoothly - we'll try to set up a payment gateway to accept annual fees for the association (not SamadNet) - for transparency, the annual accounts are audited and we may probably scan and upload the bank statements. - SamadNet is a less restrictive network, without any requirements to comply with the bureaucratic Register of Society's rules and regulations on the membership. Therefore, undergraduates should be allowed to join (as currently practised) - legal advice needed - is SamadNet contravening any law? Pls speak up early. We don't want Special Branch to haul us up for interviews. !! - to encourage academic excellence, perhaps we could (if there's enough funds) to award the top performer for every stream and every form some prize money or something. Let the kids know that ejukayshion is important - SamadNet to be opened to former and current school teachers - if interest and demand is there to form sports groups like bowling, soccer, squash, golf, etc., this can be created in the forums - classified ads for jobs and things - if volume is high, we may open site to banner ads (controversial but site becomes self-sustaining) - obituary - morbid but we have a few friends that have passed on but not many are aware. - should we place out a survey of shortlisted ideas for more feedback? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Please let us know what you think - agree or don't agree - more ideas. I'll compile and put up all the ideas on the site when I have the time. Until then. Jason Tan Boon Teck http://samadian.tripod.com
