Bouquets, poem for outgoing teacherBy K.W. MAK
SMK SULTAN Abdul Samad in Petaling Jaya paid tribute to
outgoing language department head and teacher Datin Faridah Abdul
Hamid last week.
Schooling activities were put on hold as students, teachers and
ex-teachers alike gathered at the school’s assembly grounds to bid
the dedicated teacher farewell.
“She has taught the Form 6 students in this school since 1985 and
always treats us like close buddies,’’ said head prefect Param
Sathasivam. “Still, when it comes to studies, she is strict with us.
“She has inspired us to achieve our dreams and we are thankful
for all that she has done.’’

A bouquet for a beloved
teacher. | Teacher Amir Hazlin, who
spoke on behalf of the teachers, continued with the tribute saying:
“All meetings have their partings and it is now time for hers with
the rest of us. But this separation is only with the school and her
job, but not her title as a teacher as she will always be to all of
us.”
Finally, it was the headmistress Che Pah Darus who paid tribute
to Faridah with a personal pantun (poem) she wrote.
“With her departure, the students lose a teacher, the teachers
lose a leader, the school loses a capable administrator and I lose a
friend,” said Che.
“I will miss her laughter and her fashionable clothing styles. It
seems like we have known each other for many years even though I
have only worked with her for two and a half years.
“We will be hard pressed to find a replacement for her in all the
fields she is leaving behind in the school.”
After the eulogy, students and teachers alike presented Faridah
with token gifts. Students from the martial arts bodies put up a
show before lunch was served at the school hall.
The event came to a close at 1.10pm with Faridah doing the
customary “punch out’’ of her card for the last time. With tears,
Faridah exchanged hugs with schoolteachers before she left.
